Licensing, terms and conditions.

- 2 mins read

Let’s be real, no one is reading any of that.

The majority of software in use by the populace runs under proprietary code with strict nonsensical licensing granting all rights to the game developers and signing you up for meaningless garbage.

With a considerable amount of the internet just clicking “Agree and Continue” to more than 500 lines of text, I have decided to create my own license for my projects, in 25 lines or less. It must allow the end users to do whatever they want with the code and program, must make sure that the code is open-source and also require proper accreditation to the original.

With that, I bring the HPL or the “Hearts Public License”.

                             HEARTS PUBLIC LICENSE
                             Version 0, April 2024

Copyright (C) 2024 losthearts (失われた心) <https://xn--f9jvei1272bn4g.yokohama/>

Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim or modified
copies of this license document, and changing it is allowed as long
                            as the name is changed.

                             HEARTS PUBLIC LICENSE
TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR COPYING, DISTRIBUTION AND MODIFICATION

      0. You MUST make sure that the code is OPEN-SOURCED and ACCESSIBLE.
      1. You MUST make sure that the PROPER ACCREDITATION is given to the
         necessary parties.
      2. Your code need not have this license, but MUST follow the TERMS
         AND CONDITIONS.
      3. You can do WHATEVER you want with the code, but you MUST follow
the TERMS AND CONDITIONS upon DISTRIBUTION of the code.
      4. THE CODE IS AS-IS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY (Unless stated OTHERWISE).

And so, there we have it. In 20 lines, I have made a non-political license, that works well for my use-case, and I am content with it.

Feel free to use the LICENSE in your projects.
