One of my greatest desires in life, which can not really be fulfilled is to have been a teen in the early 2000s. That would mean to have been born around 1989-1992.

Here, I’ll talk about why.

The early 2000s were a unique time – this was due to the world shifting from analog to digital. This introduced an era of experimenting with new technology.

People were more alive. People had more fun. Atleast that is what it seems like to me.

Just a camera.

I find myself browsing through Japanese videos from the 2000s - the feel of the country is unreal and ethereal.

And to top that, the grainy noise of the cameras from back then really captures the vibe. I am so glad that people like to capture their lives, immortalising it in tapes, 0s and 1s.

There is this film that has recently been catching my eye, All About Lily Chou-Chou (リリイ・シュシュのすべて) is from Japan, 2001.

The cinematography is amazing from what I have seen of it. It appears to be a heart wrenching story and I haven’t gotten around watching it for myself yet.

Another subject that really bothers me about current times is the state of social media. I have accounts on the popular ones, although I have’t used them in over a year.

I want to experience YouT*be as it was in the 2010s. I want to experience MySpace, Orkut and all the other old gems. Everyone is so main stream now that there aren’t many people who are really original.

One of the most important reasons I have this site up is to preserve my own originality, with effectively zero restrictions.

One of the opening scenes in the movie, The Social Network is Mark Zuckerberg (Casted by Jesse Eisenberg) blogging while simultaneously accessing Harvard’s fraternities’ student databases (I can not think up of another term), while being drunk.

Although the chances of me getting into Harvard is as good as 0, I do want to have a “living in the moment” like that. :')

Do not get me started on the games of that era. My knowledge is limited to GameFreak/Nintendo titles, specifically Pokémon and Mario.

I am aware of the backlight issues of the original GameBoy and I do not want to hear anything about that – it had its own charm.

The 8-bit graphics appeal to me on a different level – I have always been fascinated with pixel art, ever since I have been a child.

The translucent material used in consoles like the GameBoy Advanced and the GameBoy Color feels like a lucid dream.

Moving onto the NDS,

My oh my, the OSTs hit different. I feel so nostalgic hearing the Pokémon Lake Theme, which honestly is unreasonable considering the fact that I have never played the game as a child, on an actual NDS. Another thing I like to do is to go through the comments on such videos – makes me go through a whole lot of emotion.

Game Title: Pokémon Pearl

I also have a thing for the books from back then – I shall go over that in a post later.
